The House on Foster Hill Book Review

Kaine Prescott is in desperate need of a fresh start after her husband's death and the police lake of interest of listening to her accusation of having a stalker shortly after she became a widow.

She purchased a house in the hometown of her grandfather in hopes of renovating it (fulfilling her dead husband dreams of turning old homes into something beautiful) but soon realizes what an irrational decision it was after all the nightmares seem to follow her to her new life.

I have received an advanced readers copy of this book by Bethany House in exchange for an honest review and I must say this was the first time I was very disappointed with a book by them.

In the book, we follow two perspectives Kaine in present time and Ivy Thorpe but a hundred years earlier both of which are trying to unravel the secrets of Foster Hill House. Ivy is trying to solve the mystery of a dead woman who recently gave birth with the baby nowhere to be found. While Kaine is trying to figure out who her stalker (and probably her spouse's killer) was.

I had so many issues with this book, first of which was the pace of this thing, it could have easily been wrapped into a short story of fifty pages but somehow it's 300?!?!? like WHY?

It was super slow, every paragraph was a further explanation of the paragraph before it and every page retells the reader what literally just happened.

If Kaine receives a new threat from her stalker? you will be reminded of that for the next twelve pages.

The second issue I had is that I couldn't tell the two main characters apart Kaine and Ivy where identical characters, identical thoughts, identical thoughts about God and their relationship with him.

and my biggest issue was Grant - I said it - I'm not a fan of a super touchy man who fell in love with someone he just met ( and I'm supposed to think he's being slow, then what is fast?)

Kain is a professional who dealt with abused women, shouldn't she get the hint that Grant was stepping out of line from the first day she met him. or is that OK when a guy is cute?

and there was no mystery element except in the first ten pages and the last twenty pages. We were making zero progress with both investigations in most of the book. Everything else was women trying to fall in love with men who could protect them and reassures them that everything would be Okay.

I only appreciated the element of sex trafficking because I believe that is a huge terrible issue and it should be addressed more. but I wish it was solved with actual effort.
