THIS BOOK IS A WONDER <3 I regret holding it back for a while…. It’s amazing August “Auggie” was born with a facial deformity, that disallowed him from having a regular 10 year old boy’s life. All the doctors – who came from all over the country – couldn’t give an explanation for what caused his face to look like this, all the 27th surgeries didn’t help him look more NORMAL like; he was born like this and he was feeling somewhat OK with this until one day he overheard his mother talking about sending him to an actual SCHOOL . Being home-schooled all these past years because of his health situation, you can imagine the struggle he have to face when he goes to middle school, and specially dealing with THE MIDDLE GRADERS. Wonder is what they call “a roller costar” of feelings, it’s sad, it’s heartbreaking, it’s funny, it’s worm with feeling. It’s everything you need for an amazing read. August’ s Characters is very sweet and kind. His relationship with his family is very special, they are all understanding and kind but realistic in the same time. Olivia’s character was the best between all; with the way she dealt with August, especially how she sometimes tells him the truth about a certain situation and not trying to “protect” his feeling ALL THE TIME like their parents always do. The school and the teachers were incredible. I want to go to “Beecher Prep”; Mr. Tushman was the best middle-school director a kid with a facial deformity could have. Now I’m going to get into any spoilers but the struggles that August has to go through in the entire book its very emotional most of them made me cry, but they are very inspiring and they touch really sensitive issues in reality. Now let’s talk about the writing style for a bit; August is the main narrator in the book and very interesting for a couple of reasons: 1- Being able to see the whole thing from the SENSITIVE point of view. I mean he’s sick, he’s ugly and he’s TEN, so its very emotional. 2- Its written in a grown up style – even if he’s ten – the whole mention of the weather, the excpretions on the schoolmate’s faces, and what everybody is wearing. It’s not something you would expect from a 10 years old, so that why the book is great for both YA and adults readers. And as much as I enjoyed reading the book through August’s eyes, I think I’ll be bored of the book keeps going that way. R.J.Palacio did a great job in the whole Character building thing, switching the story and seeing it from different perspective was such an amazing treats and very well done. Not every writer masters that. WONDER …. BEST CONTEMPORARY I’VE READ THIS YEAR 5 STARS
